TennisMatch v1 launch notes
TennisMatch is live. Here's what we shipped and what we learned.
What V1 does
Tell us how you play, where you play, and when. We pair you with a verified partner — usually within 48 hours. After the match, both players confirm. That confirmation builds the trust signal that helps the next pairing. Players never see public ratings, public reviews, or public videos of themselves.
That's it. No court booking. No AI coaching feature yet. No clubs. No tournaments. Just: find a partner, play, confirm, repeat.
Why we kept V1 narrow
We had a long backlog: court availability integration, ranking ladders, group lessons, video drill libraries. Each one would have shipped, and each one would have made the product fatter and slower.
The constraint we kept asking: does this feature make the next match get played? If the answer was 'no, but it'd be nice,' it didn't make V1. That filter killed maybe 70% of the backlog. The V1 surface ended up unusually small — but every part of it directly serves the match getting played.
What we learned from intake
Before we shipped, we ran an intake survey with the players who said they wanted in. The data was clearer than we expected:
More than half are 2.5–3.0 — the level most tennis platforms ignore. 49% said 'I just want someone reliable,' not 'I want someone better than me.' 44% are women — well above industry averages for tennis platforms. The need wasn't matchmaking at the elite level. It was matchmaking that doesn't waste their time.
That last insight became the north star. V1 isn't about finding the perfect partner. It's about finding the partner who actually shows up and plays at the level they said.
What hasn't worked
We underestimated how much trust friction sits at the boundary. Some players are skeptical of any new platform asking them to pair with strangers. The fix wasn't more product features — it was more verified, vouched-for partners on the supply side. We're now investing more on supply than on user acquisition.
What's next
V2 adds lightweight features that compound the trust signal: a smoother post-match confirmation, a friend-of-friend visibility filter, and a way to invite trusted partners directly. Still no public videos, no public ratings.
